It was two years ago, but I can clearly recall every detail just like it was yesterday, or the day before yesterday, that was, the best weekend ever.
I was introduced by many ex-coworkers many times about this event, the ACTIVEx Endurance Challenge Camp, but ain't got clear impressions until I showed up. With dozens of colleagues welcomed me in the lobby, my amazing San Diego Camp trip started, Arch sorted out everything for me, including help renting a very decent brand new Trek speed bike, I glanced it, the price tag was still on and written “$3,999”!
The camp weekend was a 3.5 days swimming, biking and running my heart out in Cherry Valley, CA, a city about 2 hours Northeast of San Diego and is the highest point on the San Gorgonio Pass which runs from San Bernadino to Palm Springs. You can think about the hot mountains climate, maybe it’s not a real place in California.
As an employee of the well-known endurance event registration company The ACTIVE Network, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend this amazing camp. Honored to be invited from the other side of the Ocean. In it’s 5th year, ACTIVEx Endurance Challenge Camp has grown to nearly 150 participants who come together to both train and connect. The camp is held at Highland Springs Resort which is a farm (chickens, sheep, a llama and lavender!), ranch, hotel, restaurant and 1,100 years old oak tree. Campers bike in the nearby mountains, run up and through the surrounding trails, swim in the local high school pool, practice yoga in the hotel conference room, take professional recovery sessions in the yard and have costume party with jambalaya at the bonfire.
In addition to the workouts, all participants and their families eat, relax and socialize together. The camp is technically a training camp for the Solana Beach Triathlon (Unfortunately I didn’t have time to make it), but it serves as much more than that – it is a bonding experience for employees and their families alike. I already knew a lot of them via daily work, Facebook, IMs, and conference calls, but I was still constantly meeting them online or via email. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and welcoming and I didn’t feel like an outsider at all!
ACTIVEx (which doesn’t just focus on triathlon – they encourage all employees and families to grow in “their ACTIVE” which could be anything from walking, rock climbing, cycling, golf, volunteering, etc) as well as ACTIVEx Endurance Challenge Camp was created by an awesome guy named Arch Fuston, who is also my mentor for the endurance coaching and program coordination. Arch puts his blood, sweat and tears into making working at ACTIVE not just about work but also about health and community. Since I was part of the ACTIVEx team, in addition to the workouts, I also helped set up, tear down and move bikes. It was as rewarding as it was exhausting to contribute to such an awesome adventure.
I found you showed a lot of photos about vasque HANGZHOU, and you also go to NINGHAI trail IN OCT 18th,2015.
